2 1/2 would be more appropriate. Slow service and she was not attentive. Food was okay.

Stopped in here for a late lunch..pretty good BBQ place...More like 3 and 1/2 stars. They have a Happy Hour menu with discounted appetizers. The conch fritters were slightly undercooked. I am not a fan of BBQ, but I had the buffalo shrimp and liked them very much. Not overly spicy and it had homemade blue cheese...definitely one of the best blue cheese dressings I've had. My husband really liked the BBQ.

Two visits in one day and two completely different experiences. Popped in for a drink on the Key West cocktail challenge and was impressed with the layout of the place but no overwhelmed by the atmosphere. Went back at night for dinner and was totally impressed by the food. Who knew you could come all the way down to Key West for great BBQ?! Our server was great and very friendly. The manager on duty popped by and thanked us for coming in which was a nice touch at the end. Definitely coming back for the ribs on my next trip.

So here we are. About 17 of us throwing an impromptu going away party for one of our workers. Yes, we live and work in Key West. We are eating, drinking. 1 waiter very inattentive. The I ask for my bill. I've been drinking kettle one on the rocks and my buddy had a dirty martini. The bill breaks out each drink as follows: Kettle one vodka -8.00 Ice-2.00 Kettle one martini-10.00 Olive juice-3.00 Charging for ice and olive juice? Really! Hey Pat Crocci, wake up, you just pissed of 17 locals. How many people do you think we are going to tell? We now refer to this place as "ice is extra"

Excellent variety of food on the menu...my husband loves BBQ and he was impressed with the brisket flavor; I enjoy seafood and their fish dip was out of this world. Very creamy and smoky! We highly recommend Charlie Macs when you visit Key West...we'll be back again!

  • David M.

Great atmosphere open and airy. I'm local and think they have really good brisket...the price is just a little high in my option but I keep going back! The platter is full of brisket, the baked beans are yummy, and service is good. Next door to the Green Parrot.

We order delivery from Charlie Mac's and it's awesome. Their ribs are consistently delicious, fall off the bone yummy. Great seasoning and the sides are good, too. We get a couple of meals out of one rack. We're repeat customers and love it.

BBQ turkey meal was delicious and a good value for the amount of food served. The coleslaw is sweet and spicy, very good.

The ambiance is awesome! Very relaxing atmosphere and friendly service! Now I want to get more in depth about this meal. I am not a big fan of pulled pork, but this was by far the best I have EVER had. It was tender, juicy, succulent I had the garlic greenbeans to accompany such divinity. They were FRESH. Cooked to the perfection & flavor was on point.Lastly, the cornbread.Fluffy& delicious The texture was cake! I had to look and make sure I was really eating cornbread! Must go if in Key West.

This place isn't even worth one star. By far the worst customer service that I've ever had in my life. We were the only ones in the restaurant, the server took our order. An hour later came back to not only say that he forgot to put our order in, but also lost the paper that he wrote it down on. We asked him to rush it, he said he would try. Forty five minutes later, still no food, we asked for our check and left. The server or manager never apologized for the slow service nor did they discount our check. We went elsewhere and got a great meal with amazing service. Avoid this place if possible.

Great spot right off of Duval near the Green Parrot. Bartender and Crew were awesome and eager to help. Spent a few nights hanging out at this bar with my buddies. The first night we were there, we asked if we could bring our fresh caught fish for the chef to cook up. He discussed a few options and we were all set. Brought the fish back the next night and the Sous Chef (forgot his name) was ready to help. 15 minutes later, we had Mahi and Wahoo blackened, grilled and fried. Each one was better than the last. Great job and we will definitely visit again on our next trip! Also, they have a great beer selection!

Ordered a full slab of ribs. Delicious! I'm a rib snob and theses are some of the best ribs I've had. Ordered them dry rubbed. Three sauces at the table. Split the order with my girlfriend because so much food. Onion rings and baked beans were excellent compliments. Service was very friendly and professional. Only reason not 5 stars was the price. Otherwise this is a MUST casual dining experience in Key West!

Comfort food here. Stopped in here because of the sidewalk daily special sign - "Friday Fried Chicken Dinner". It was outstanding - corn chowder to start - Fried Chicken was some of the best broasted chicken I have had in awhile - this place is new, but is really going somewhere. It has a great outdoorsy atmosphere with a cleanliness that you dont "always" find on or near Duval - but this place has it going on. Chicken dinner was 3 pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes with a fantastic country gravy, "fresh" green beans with a garlic pepper seasoning, and a buttermilk biscuit. It was as the opener says - fantastic comfort food. Try it - you'll like it.

I have been here only once, but I really enjoyed it. It was little loud and kind of touristy, but worth a trip. I am from NC, so I take my BBQ seriously. So do these guys. The pulled pork BBQ is the best on the island, for sure. The beer selection is great as well. On the back wall, they have a great photo op wherein one stands in front of a classic prison height chart and holds the board with the prisoner number, except the prisoner number says something like "I did something stupid in Key West". Pretty cool idea.

I am a picky eater and LOVED this place. Clean environment and good service. Everyone in my party said the smoked wings were amazing. I loves the nachos. Fair warning: nachos come with baked beans on top. Conch fritters were decent, but not my fav - they had an odd, planty flavor. Drinks are on par. Ask about the drink challenge! I recommend the Huck Finn lemonade!

  • Ainsley D.

Best meat in town! Smoked and then grilled to make succulent then the spices are excellent and not afraid to go bold with spicy wigs, savory ribs and fresh tasting chicken salad. Good drink specials.

  • Steve G.

We ate there today with a large group (10) and had great service, it was great food and I'm looking forward to going back. One member of our group made the comment that the bathrooms were the cleanest in Key West...funny as it sounds, that's important to some folks. 5 stars!

  • Jon S.

Got the brisket. Was ok but chewy. My wife got the fish tacos and they were bad. The taste of the fish was off - and they were heaviky charred, not blackened. She sent it back and did not want anything else. The manager stopped by to talk to us about it (and removed from our bill). Fried pickles were ok as was the sauce. Our server was horrible. The place was not busy but I had to go up to the bar to get a refill on my beer. He was socializing more with the table behind us than doing his job. Didn't think to bring out plates with our appetizers. Just bad...

Had lunch here and it was very good. Service was excellent. BBQ pork was great sandwich with lots of meat and no fat. Would go again.

  • Autumn W.

I wasn't sure what to think of seafood and bbq, but this place was great! Order the fish tacos, you won't be disappointed. Please start bottling and selling your bbq sauce!

  • Jackie A.

Started out with the pulled pork Mac and Cheese balls. They were awesome.! Dinner I tried something different tofu tacos great flavor added to the tofu but I would of liked to seen my salad before my dinner.

  • Debra D.

Their dry rubbed BBQ brisket was absolutely delicious. Can't remember having a more tender, tasty piece of brisket and the homemade BBQ sauces were a perfect compliment. The coleslaw served is good, the mac'n cheese was good also...but not on the level of the meat. They have won awards for their BBQ and it is very easy to see why! They also have a very tasty salad also that has sliced almonds, strawberries, blue cheese and THE most tasty strawberry vinegarette. They were even kind enough to send some home with us when I commented on how yummy it was. If you enjoy BBQ I wouldn't miss this place!

    (5)
  • Maggie Z.

My husband and I have been here twice and have had a good experience with the food and the wait staff. The pulled pork Mac and cheese balls were so good. I had the pulled pork sandwich and couldn't decide between the sweet BBQ sauce and the mango jerk sauce. My husband got the meatloaf. He loved it! Our server was very nice and attentive. I would recommend this place to anyone.

    (5)
  • Tony S.

Charlie Mac's had a great atmosphere and filling menu. Pulled pork mac & cheese bites were boss. Even the half rack of ribs smothered in BBQ sauce, were Fred Flintstone worthy. The cornbread was so good, we got some to take home! It was so fresh and moist. Our waitress was on point with everything & very helpful. "This is the Sports Bar you wanna come to" and dont forget the cornbread.

  • Andy L.

My wife and I stop in from Seattle. 1). Neat atmosphere....energy and neat location. 2). Staff hanging out at bar eating and conversing with off going employees for an hour...not so good. Go elsewhere and eat. 3). Waiter was awesome and friendly....he had to wait for my drinks as others gathered and ate at the bar...see #2. 4). Buffalo shrimp awesome. A) Baby back ribs. B) Onion Rings, frozen cheap . C) Coleslaw . D) Cornbread...didn't look good, but was the bomb.

  • Christina P.

Went here twice for drinks while in Key West this last week. Bartenders were extremely rude to my family. My cousin forgot to tell bartender about the BOGO coupon he had & she acted like it was the biggest deal ever. Even stated "it's only going to save you like 50 cents" ummm last time I checked their drafts were wayy more than 50 cents a piece. Super rude. Only positive during my experience was the photo op in front of the police line up. Didn't try the food.

    (1)
  • Justin Z.

Mac and Cheese balls are a must!! If you go on a Monday do yourself a favor and get the meatloaf, it's to die for, easily the best meatloaf I've had in a restaurant.

    (5)
  • Justin G.

Near the main strip, this is a decent bar that has open walls (to let that nice Key West air in). Usually has a band playing. The food is meh. It's mostly fried food. Definitely don't try the blackened fish tacos. They were bland and rubbery. The pork (in it's many forms) is pretty good though. Drinks are solid though.

    (3)
  • Andrew J.

I am really starting to like this place....I ate here twice on a recent visit to KW....had the blue cheese burger and the brisket. The space just has a good feel.....open air with a large circular bar (indoor seating too) hip design, good food and draft beer selection and fair prices. I'll be back!

    (4)
  • Casey C.

Pretty good BBQ... I know, who goes to Key West and get's BBQ, but I had to try it. Good beer specials, quality service, great BBQ. Can't beat that.

  • Joe W.

Value: 3 Customer Service: 5 Food Quality: 5 Hands down the best BBQ in Key West. Now honestly, that is not saying ANYTHING because there is really no competition. Pat Croce has done a good job of bringing BBQ to the downtown area, however this will be a TOURIST place only. You won't see the locals making this their spot because of the tourist pricing. YES TOURISTS these prices are aimed at you, meaning this food is on average $3-$5 more expensive than it would be somewhere else. If you are craving BBQ then yes, this is the only place to spend your $$ at, and prepare to spend roughly $25-$30 for each person. You can eat much better food however in Key West, for that same price, and much cheaper!

    (3)
  • Kristin B.

Serious BBQ...pulled pork nachos- clutch...ribs were smoky, sweet and the meat fell off the bone...I typically don't love ribs- these ribs get me. Too good. Don't go unless you plan to couch after! ;P

We stopped in to watch a football game and grab some beers. We also ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie. there are lots of TV's in the restaurant and the bar is right in the middle, which is nice. The Key Lime Pie was seriously the best I've ever had. It has a marzapan texture and wasn't too sugary or too tart. I am still dreaming about that slice of Key Lime Pie....

    (4)
  • Heather G.

We arrived in Key West on a Sunday and were excited to find a place with TVs that had a table available to watch football. As our first place to eat/drink in Key West, our expectations were pretty high, and it took at least ten minutes for someone to acknowledge we were there... and we were a foot away from the bar next to tables that were being served. Now, we should have gotten the BBQ since it's a known BBQ joint, but we expected the other food would be just as good. We ordered the fish dip, and it was delicious. The menu said it was served with flatbread, but we did not receive any; just crackers. Still delicious though. Then I ordered the caesar salad, and the hubs got the fish tacos. The caesar salad was by far the worst one I have ever had. To add the chicken to it actually cost more than the salad itself, and the chicken was horrible. The dressing had the worst taste.. I don't even know how to explain it. My husbands fish tacos were nothing to write home about. Just kinda meh. Overall, we paid way too much for the service we received and the poor food. As a tourist, I would not recommend this spot. Maybe it's just a good local spot? Who knows.

Had a quick lunch -the conch & corn chowder-delicious and filling. My husband had the brisket sandwich on a gluten free roll. The brisket was surprisingly tender . Best part of it for me was hands down the mojito-fresh and refreshing-perfect start for the day

    (3)
  • Robert N.

I've eaten at the restaurant and last night got our dinner delivered. The ribs are incredible--very smokey, very meaty and just falling off the bone. And the brisket is just as good. With dinner you get cole slaw and two sides so there's enough food for dinner and lunch tomorrow too. Took about 30 minutes from phone call to delivery. I will definitely do this again.

Great BBQ and service...love this place...if I lived here ( and I wish I did! ) this would be a regular stop!!

  • Brad K.

Went for second time. my husband had smoked biscuit, I had the burger. The burger was yummy. Char flavored. last year there I had smoked turkey. Definitely worth going vvisit to Key West.

  • Theresa H.

Yummy pork Mac n cheese balls! Spicey Bloody Mary Hit the spot. Waitress was nice. Worth a stop.

    (5)
  • Shairy G.

The server was hardly attentive. She completely forgot to bring out our appetizer. However the bbq was quite tasty.

    (3)
  • Pamela P.

Yum yum yum. Delicious barbecue! Great onion rings and smoked chicken breasts. My husband had ribs and said Rey were great. Ice tea is also delicious!

Loved our bar tender Danielle. Great beers on draft, wrap around bar, tvs for sports, creative and delicious sliders. I love it here.

Took a friend of mine to lunch at Charlie Mac's June 27. The Bar help was very rude. The waitress was OK and she was honest. The BBQ plate was greasy and the BBQ Beans were just horrible. They make instant tea and it sucked. My friend Todd had the Brisket and had a hard time eating what he called dried cardboard. I would have gave this a negative if Yelp would let us. I ask the waitress how on earth did Charlie Mac's win the local Brisket Contest. They must of had someone other than the cook they have now. She said it was the Owner not his staff who cooked the Brisket. She also stated the food is good one day and not the next. Different cooks. I told her she needed to find a better place to work. This food is slightly better than Daddy Bones but not by much. I will be retiring in 2015 and getting back to the real south and real BBQ that wins real awards and that is much needed in my life. There is nowhere in Key West to get Quality BBQ. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I now take the time to buy fresh ribs which is costly for Key West. My Ribs are flown in from the Stock Yards in Memphis (Costly). I get my apple wood from Alabama (Costly). I brew my tea to perfection. Back to the review: Two couples were waiting for over 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged them. The four got up and left. I ask for the check and will never return. Charlie Mac's Sucks.

  • Tom M.

Found this little gem by accident. Pulled pork is as good as u can get this side of NC and the best fresh french fries that I have ever had. Would have been 5 stars but the service was very slow bartender forgot about us a couple times and a glass of wine was poured awfully short. The beer selections were a nice blend of crafts and the usual big breweries.

    (4)
  • Rebecca G.

We walked by this place a few times and it looked and sounded fun. I read the yelp reviews and saw that they were mixed, but decided to give it a try. They were playing bingo, there was an open, airy bar, and the bbq smoke smelled delicious, so we decided to stop for lunch. No one offered to have us join in on the bingo and we felt like we were missing out on all the fun. The people were getting into the bingo and the mc did a good job riling everyone up. The beer selection was pretty good. The food took quite a while to get there. Service was just okay. This is a can miss for food, but feel free to stop in the bar area for a drink, and ask to join in on the Bingo on a Sunday. I would not go back.

  • Patty T.

We stopped here quickly to grab a bite while drinking in Key West :) My husband and I shared the bbq pork nachos and they were awesome! Lots of juicy bbq pork with great flavor, cheese and sauce. This portion was huge and ended up being lunch for us. Highly recommend it during your Key West pub crawl.

Service was great. Fran the waiter was friendly and attentive. BUT...... The food was pretty awful!!! Brisket platter was frankly terrible..... Meat was rubbery, not fresh, totally unappetizung. Coleslaw was tasteless. Side salad had nothing in it but lettuce. Food came out sooooo quickly that it had to be sitting around waiting for a customer. So it got cold very quickly. Would not go back! Bottled beer was fine.....

    (1)
  • Chuck C.

Excellent BBQ, I was impressed. Fran is also an excellent server - service with a smile.

We were headed for the Green Parrot but needed to eat lunch so followed the signs to Charlie Mac's. The Bar-B-Q was good, loved the sauce once I mixed the sweet with the hot. They also have a mustard sauce, though I didn't care for it. Good portions, sandwich came with cole slaw and a large portion of crispy fries. Bartendar was attentive. All and all, a good experience.

  • Mary Grace M.

I wouldn't have given this place any stars if that was an option and if I hadn't ordered a bloody mary. The Bloody Mary was fair but certainly not worth the price at happy hour. Maybe it was the night or who was in the kitchen...all I know is the food was cold, over salted, and dry. The waitress even confirmed that who was in the kitchen is dependent on the quality of the food. I feel bad for the waitress because the sh*tty service combined with bad food must be killing her tips. The service at this place was horrendous. In fact, as I sit here and write this review a couple has walked out secondary to being neglected by the wait staff. What a shame that this place is recognized under the same umbrella as the ever wonderful half shell and turtle kraals.

    (1)
  • Lindsay G.

This was the final stop on a 6-bar crawl, so I'm only rating based on the drink. We had a berry mojito, which was pretty good. The bartender working that night was friendly, so I'd return based on this experience. Next time we'll go before the kitchen closes to try their food.

  • Neil H.

After waiting almost twenty minutes for the bartender to acknowledge my presence, I ordered a half slab of baby back ribs. I could deal with the wait if the ribs were done low and slow over smoke by a real pit master. What I got was parboiled ribs finished on a grill. Fall off the bone like what you get at places like Applebee's. To make matters worse it came with a one inch square of dried out cornbread, and slaw that tasted like dirty dishwater.. The fries tasted OK, but we're cold. The bartender asked me how the ribs were, and I told her they tasted boiled, showed her there was no pink smoke ring, and how the bone came out holding no meat at all on it.... She took them off my tab, and considering I had but one and didn't want another it was her best option. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse some tourist from Kansas said to me, "nice way to get a free meal". I turned quickly and quietly asked him if he would like to repeat that once again outside the restaurant. He quietly withdrew. Key West, with so many outstanding dining options still has no real barbecue options. Let's hope some true pit master from Memphis, Kansas City, the Carolinas or Texas chooses our little tropical paradise to call home.

Was in Key West and wanted some food delivered to hotel. I called and ordered the Smokey Burger and so did my buddy. I told them to hold the cheese on mine. I hd the South Caroline Yellow Sauce on mine. These burgers come with puller pork and coleslaw and an onion ring on the burger. Delicious. I was in heaven. I think we ordered a side of fries but I do not even remember. Those burgers were out of this world. The following day I ordered the wings with same sauce with some fries. Just greedy but it was so good. Not as great as the burgers but definitely good.

  • Taylor S.

Came here on X-Mas morning for an early lunch. This place serves lots of good BBQ and Burgers. Even the fish tacos were on point. The server was attentive and kept the holiday beer flowing. Good part is, its just a couple blocks off the main drag (Duval).

    (4)
  • J P.

Best choice for BBQ on the island. Pork belly slides are great. Cornbread is just like mama made. It was kinda crowded when we were there last, but the service was still good.

  • Wendy N.

We rented bikes for a day and the smell is what drew us into this place. We sat at the bar and when the bartender gave us menus I politely told him I had to eat gluten free and asked if he could direct me to what I could safely eat on the menu. He got really snotty and said "I have NO idea what is gluten free", kind of threw his hands up and walked away! Seriously? Not geez, I'm sorry, I don't know myself but I can find out for you. Just screw you? I asked if anyone knew what was gluten free and he went and got a manager. The manager was VERY nice and helpful and I decided on the smoked half chicken, cole slaw and potato salad; hold the corn bread. The meal came out with corn bread on the plate but thankfully it was in a paper cup so I could just remove it without sending it back. Hubby had a smoked turkey club sandwich and he raved over it. The food was really good and we would definitely go back, but the bartender really needed an attitude adjustment. Even trying to make small talk with him he made us feel like he couldn't be bothered with us. We commented to him about how nice the manager was and all he grunted was a "yeah, sometimes". Completely inappropriate! The manager did tell me he was going to be getting gluten free rolls in the near future which would be great. The entire time we were in KW, I did not find ONE restaurant that offered gluten free bread.

A bartender at another bar recommended this place for dinner and I had heard about it from a friend who was in EYW a few weeks before. I got the brisket and was not disappointed. It was a lot of food for the price (I did not finish) and very tasty. I had two of the specialty beers on tap (do not remember the names) and they were good too. Service was quick and very attentive. Don't forget to get your "mugshot" taken in the back.

  • Kris S.

Terrible food. Maybe we just went on an off day because there are a lot of good reviews. But we ordered the ribs and they weren't edible at all and I could not even get through the day old fries. The margaritas we ordered tasted awful and we had to send them back as it tasted like dirty lime water. Hopefully this was just a bad day. And the food were poorly presented in plastic baskets.

  • Ashley H.

Meh..... We were basically forced to eat here after the Fantasy Fest parade had ended as my relatives were really hungry. I had the chicken tenders which tasted dried out. My husband had the smoked wings and they were kinda dried out. I asked for jerk sauce to dip my tenders in and the waitress said it was in one of the squeeze bottles on the table. There were 3 squeeze bottles. I tasted all of them and couldn't figure out which on was the jerk flavor. One was obviously barbecue though. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

  • Sam A.

Update: Visited again this weekend. Had the pulled pork with baked beans and fries. The pulled pork was tastier than my last visit, there was more, and it wasn't laying in a puddle of water. It's good now but still not great. When I feel the need for BBQ I'll be back.

Great service, good bar food! Watched football in a clean, nice setting. Very cool crowd and nice clean spot! I would definitely recommend watching sports here.

Great atmosphere right off the strip. Got to try the fried Mac and cheese balls. We had the 2 dollar pulled pork tacos on taco Tuesdays. So good!

They were out of two of the items we originally choose so we asked for some recommendations. The waitress was right on the spot with all of them. Everything we had was delicious! Eat here its great!

  • Scott D.

The keys might have great seafood, but good BBQ is not perfected here yet. "Best smoke in key west".....well i guess if you are the only smoke that makes you best by default. Brisket is my go to gauge for how well the establishments BBQ is. Worst brisket ever! On top of that the service was horrible....and the place was empty. Even the entertainment was less than stellar. I gave the guy 5 bucks to play songs for us, pretty much the only patrons in the place, and he couldn't play anything we threw at him. I'll never go back and I am pretty easily pleased.

  • Paul S.

The spicy beans did it for me. I think them and a nice craft beer would make my idea of a vegetarian dinner. Woo Hoo Meatless Monday at Charlie Mac's!!

  • J. D.

This was literally the best BBQ I have ever had in my life and I am from Texas... I know my BBQ! We were only in Key West for a week, and we went back to Charlie Mac's to eat 4 times! IT IS THAT GOOD! Each time we went, we had excellent service, whether sitting at a table or at the bar. On our last trip there, the chef was kind enough to bring us out a slice of key lime pie with a new recipe he was trying out... and WOW! I certainly hope it's on the menu when we go back next year. If you like BBQ, you MUST try Charlie Mac's!!!

Great beer selection. Happy Hour is a 1$ all drafts and wells. The food was delicious! Great bar food. The nachos had real chicken breast on it and fresh peppers. The green beans were tossed in butter and garlic. Very good stuff. My bartender was very attentive and friendly. Although it hadn't gotten busy yet.

Food cold, and service very poor. THE FOOD: Chopped Pork Sandwich w/ Fries, the meat was decently flavored, but was cold. (other reviews say the same thing) The fries were saturated in grease and under-cooked so they were soggy. Coleslaw was your everyday coleslaw. THE SERVICE: Came in around 8PM and it did not seem too busy. Our server stopped by and brought our menus and then returned a lengthy time later to take our order. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time since we had plenty of time to think about it. The next time we saw our server was when our food was brought out. We then finished our food and drinks and he stopped by to pick up our finished meals. From that point, it took between 15-20 minutes for him to bring us our check after we finished our meals / drinks. I then promptly put my card into the bill sleeve and made it noticeable. Another 10 minutes later the bill had still not been picked up so I paid and cash and tip an amount that I saw was fit. 85% of the time we were there, our server was no where within sight.

I'm not sure if some of these reviewers went to the same place I did bit our experience was fantastic. Brisket sandwich was out of this world - spicy, tangy sweet BBQ sauce, and great fries! Service was terrific. We will be back!

Ok drinks, sub par live music, but a great place to continue the night to the next bar.

Service was just ok. Food was really good. However, if you label your place as the best something, the food should leave me speechless. This is not the case.

Can't believe that a place owner by the owner of the Green Parrot-Not the third best bar in the USA,but the Best Bar in the World-would be this mediocre. There are 50 places in North Carolina that are superior to Macs. Buy the manager a bus ticket and send him/her to North and South Carolina for a month, touring BBQ joints.Come back to KW,apologize and start again.....We want you to suceed.KW doesn't need another third tier restaurant. 2-4-15 Update: Went tonight for another shot a Charlie Mac's.Food was actually pretty good. Not good by top rated bbq joints, but good compared to Sonny's or Jim and Nick's.(regional chains) Huge quantity of food. I had bbq plate with beans and fries.Wife had chicken with veggies and apple sauce. Service was just unjustifiably awful.Got seated relatively quickly.Waited. Waited some more.Did the "if the waiter doesn't arrive in ten minutes,we're leaving. Finally got drinks and remember saying that if they don't take our order soon,I'll,pay for drinks and leave .Our guest went back to the front desk and asked for someone to take our order.Finally.Finally got order taken and finally got food.Final thing I'll say about Charlie Mac's is that this is my final visit!

This place has great BBQ. There are plenty of TVs to watch your favorite team. The drinks are excellent. I highly recommend the Rum Runner. If you're a Miami Hurricanes fan, this is the place to be on game day. Free food for Canes fans at halftime. Today they gave away beef ribs. Excellent flavor! We will definitely be back!

It never ceases to amaze me what will pass as good or high quality in this town. I had high hopes for Charlie Macs, as our island city is starved for good BBQ. My first visit was during the soft opening to watch some football and try the new menu. It came highly recommended and I had just eaten breakfast next to the BBQ consultant Beau Hammond of Henry's Smokehouse in South Carolina -- at PePe's no less. The brisket was average, although we were first told that they were out of it. Te sauces are well developed, although the Carolina sauce was a little spicy for me. The real dissapointment was the sides. Go to a mainland BBQ joint like Sonny's, Tom Jenkins or Orlando's 4rivers and often the sides overshadow some great BBQ. Not the case here. The major disappointment here was the green beans. These were supposed to be a holdover from the Meteor Smokehouse's Minnie Lee's Green Beans. They were a flavorful, tasty dish of al dente green beans, sauteed in soy and garlic with a hint of heat. Our beans we recieved that night we're luke warm, oily and tasteless. Very disappointing. Saturday night's experience was even more lackluster. Good service at the bar, the beer is cold, but the bbq chicken was awful--nearly dehydrated. Again, the sauces were out of whack... the traditional bbq sauce was ok... the Carolina way too spicy. I didn't try the jerk. Sides: abysmal. Plastic, lukewarm Cisco-style mac n cheese. Beans: straight out of the can. Unadulterated, tasteless, overcooked mush. Slaw: Definitely cabbage. Very little dressing and even less flavor. High point: The corn bread. Very good, well-cooked and sweet. The only downsize was the postage stamp size portion. I've heard rumors that the owners have been hearing a lot of the same things and that they supposedly are going to shut down and revamp the menu and offerings. It would be a good idea to do so soon... Fantasy Fest starts in a week. My fear is the bar sales are probably too strong to do any kind of serious retooling of the food component. This just seems to be what we get in this town where all the eateries are being consolidated under the ownership of two or three owners.

The food was alright. It felt like something was missing. The meat didn't have the distinct smokiness that a smoke house should have. On the upside the service was good.

Poor Charlie Macs is receiving awful reviews. I must have gone on a good night! I think it serves some of the best bar food/bbq in town for this type of restaurant. Better than Fogarty s, Mangoes and Carolines. I had the black and blue burger and my husband had the ribs. Both items were really, really good. I love the open atmosphere, the cleanliness of the restaurant and my server was knowledgeable about the beer. It's a great place!

Dried out meats, tiny sides, food not hot and served on plastic plates. Really? And at those prices and the hip decor, you would think you get a bit more class.

I went here on a mid-afternoon for lunch in late July. Overall, I was very impressed with the burger I ordered and the service. The restaurant was pretty empty being around 1pm when we ate. The faculties are fairly large and have a large capacity. Located a block off Duval street, it's only a short distance from where the action is at. Overall, service was great, our food came out in about 10 minutes or less. The burger was one of the better burgers I've had in a long time and I would go back without hesitation.

Came here looking for bbq. I know it's the keys why are we looking for BBQ?! Surprising some odd place have really good food. Since this place was talked up to be good we wanted to try it out. Our seating was in the bar tables, I had a fan that I thought was going to blow me off my seat. I had to hold my menu down. The drinks were very warm. Ice melted too fast and my beer was Luke warm when I got it. Over server was bad, barley came by our table. Now about the BBQ.... Well, it sucked. Flavor was bland. I used the honey something flavor at the table to try and add taste and that just made it so I could somewhat enjoy it. All well, I guess the keys should just stick to seafood.

Charlie Mac's has some pretty good burgers, and by "good," I mean absolutely huge. My cousin and I stopped in here for a bite to eat while we were in Key West for the week, and had to try the monster burger. Three patties and bacon and onion rings and shredded pork and cheese. We felt like we were eating something from that "Man Vs. Food" TV show. They also have two-for-one drinks like almost any place in Key West has for happy hour. They also have a pretty big selection of beer. This is basically a good sports bar open to the street so you felt like you were outside while still being inside. That's why it's a good place to go if there's a quick shower coming and you need to stop in for a drink. Overall, Charlie Mac's is just a sports bar, and we enjoyed our time at the happy hour here. The monster burger is good for two, but that would be a good test if one person can eat the whole thing.

As I do with many places, I try to find BBQ joints when I travel as I am searching for the Texas BBQ I left. I know it's not Texas, but there is that small chance I find good BBQ. There was the time I found amazing Central Texas BBQ in Phoenix - yelp.com/biz/little-miss… ). Besides, the menu said "award winning brisket." They also advertised "craft beer." After being to the Porch the night before, I was excited about the craft beer Key West had to offer. However, I was disappointed in their draft craft beer selection in looking over the menu. I couldn't seem to find any that looked interesting, and the server didn't seem very committed to helping me find the right beer. We ordered the Mac Daddy bowl. It was good, yes. However, it was a little over the top with the heart attack in the bowl. I pulled out some of the brisket on the side, and I'm not sure what contest they entered, but it didn't taste award winning to me. It was thankfully not too tough as South Florida brisket can be. However, it was so dry and uninspiring. It should not only be tender but moist. Their BBQ sauces were pretty good. Lastly, I wish they had an option to order the meats as a side (i.e. like I half slab of ribs without the sides). It really should be all about the meat at a real BBQ joint. Overall, it was a good meal, but not as inspiring as I was hoping.

Went here with my bbq loving boyfriend. We love trying different bbq joints when we travel. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were strolling off the beaten path for some lunch. We turned the corner by the Green Parrot and immediately smelled something amazing. It took us just a few steps to realize it was the bbq at Charlie Macs. We walked in the restaurant side and we're quickly greeted by one of the off duty chefs. I think he was just getting into work but he came over grabbed some menus and got us a table. I cannot say enough how great I thought this was. I worked in many restaurants over the years and that kind of team work is hard to find. After we sat we were greeted by our server. We ordered drinks and the sampler platter for 2. The platter had baby back ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken wings, cornbread, coleslaw and 3 sides; we chose mac & cheese, bbq baked beans and french fries. The food was delicious. All the meats were good, the mac and cheese was everything I could hope for, fries were crispy, beans were juicy. It was absolute bbq heaven! Service was thorough and friendly. Also the same chef who sat us came to our table to see if we enjoyed the food. Great guy ... really enjoyed this place.

I'm from Texas and Georgia (now in Miami) so I don't give out good BBQ reviews to just anyone. But wow! I ordered the 1/2 chicken - did you guys get the chicken from the hundreds of the ones running around outside? It was that amazing and fresh. There's no way you got it from a vendor. The beans were cooked to perfection & the cornbread - holy mother of... soft, sweet, crumbly. Melted in my mouth. I'm so glad I came for 4th of July! So fitting.

We came for happy hour. They have a special happy hour menu and beer and well drinks are $1 off. It's an okay deal. There is a big selection of beers on draft. You can sit along the street for people watching or at the big comfortable bar. The bar area is windowless with ceiling fans to keep you cool and the bartender was cool. I really enjoyed the fried mac n cheese balls with pork and jalapeño, the pulled pork slider and the mahi fish sticks. Buffalo shrimp were okay and the brisket slider was dry and not very good. Tasted like the brisket was sitting around for a while. All in all, it was a pretty good happy hour experience. It's worth a return trip to try their BBQ.

Great BBQ with over 24 craft taps on hand! Big place with indoor and outdoor seating. The chef was super friendly and makes all of his homed sauces and blue cheese for the wings. The wings were amazing!!!! The bloody Mary with Guiness was awesome!

This place is very welcoming looking. Lol. We were greeted right away. Virtually no one was here. We arrived early dinner time like 5pm. We sat at the bar, bartender seemed cool, but a little impatient. He didn't check up on us much either... I ordered one of their signature cocktails. El Diablo or something. Pretty tasty. But weak when it comes To alcohol content. I guess expected with most signature cocktails. I drank that one and then ordered another one asking the bartender to make the tequila a double. Still weak... I ordered the chicken sandwich. I always order chicken sandwiches at a BBQ spot. I guess it's my thing. The presentation of my food was lovely. The fries came out hot and a little crispy like I like it. The cole slaw had a spicy kick to it which was different but good. My sandwich....smh. Fail. The concept of the sandwich sounded and looked good. They have their own specialty sauce which was good. It came with avocado, tomatoes, and an onion ring. Sounds good, right? Well, it would have been had the chicken breast been cooked correctly. The chicken was tough and oddly chewy. Almost like, maybe it was not cooked all the way. I dunno. Yuck. I ate everything else, including the bread....with no chicken. Lol unfortunately, if you are going to offer a chicken breast sandwich, make sure someone knows how to cook the chicken. Geez. We then ordered their caramel cheesecake. Not bad. That put a smile on my fast after the disaster sandwich. Not bad at all. :) Long story short....any other BBQ spots in Key West??

Hubby and I had lunch here after our massages. Awesome BBQ, cool atmosphere (mainly a sports bar) and friendly staff. Met the "smoke master" Mitch, and the man knows his stuff. I had the pulled pork platter (3 different kinds of sauce available) and my hubby had ribs, which he loved. Cool fun place. Great bbq. Burgers looked tasty as well.

I came here with a big group, pretty late at night. I was in a bit of a "state" after a night of drinking, and so were my friends, but I do remember all the WONDERFUL aspects of this restaurant. The fried mac n' cheese balls were heavenly; I've never had anything like them. The fried pickles were also delicious, and my burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and served with really, really good fries. Our server was patient and professional with our somewhat rowdy group, and the owner even came out to say hello; what a great guy. This place has the ambiance, the service, and amazing food that we were looking for, and I'll be back the next time I'm in Key West. Thanks!

Only come here for the Bloody Mary's. Their own house mixed barbecue rub on the rim is delicious along with bloody Mary's made with Stoli spicy vodka is spot on. I wish they sold the barbecue rub but they said they don't. I think it is a mixture of something sweet with old bay but not sure. I came here 2 years ago doing the key west crawl and had their Bloody Mary and will continue coming back as long as they use the Stoli vodka and the barbecue rim garnished with olives and pickled green beans (local made Caribe beans-sold next door at the Green Parrot bar gift shop). Delicious!

This place gets two stars for the smell! Best BBQ IN KEY WEST....because it's the only BBQ in Key West. Wings sucked and the service was non-existent.

Came to key west with a group of 17 last week, and between all of us, I think we were here 3-5 times. Mostly what I did there was drink, had some fries, which i accidentally knocked on the floor, and they gave us new ones, free of charge (thanks!!). Haha, I promise it had nothing to do with the drinking...but moving on... Happy Hour I ordered a pulled pork slider and some buffalo shrimp...which came on the same plate, which I thought was a little odd, but never the less, the food was DELICIOUS, and happy hour prices too, which I couldn't complain about. If you're here, start, or continue, your Key West Cocktail Challenge...the other bars include Half Shell, Turtle Kralls, Green Parrot, Rum Barrel, and Island Dogs...after getting their signature drink (or substitute) at each of these, get ready for your brand spankin' new T-shirt (comes in key lime green, or white)!! The open bar atmosphere is perfect for key west, and if it rains, don't worry, its covered. I wasn't sure what this place was before, but the christmas lights shining, as a sight from Duval, got me interested. I'd give this a go if you're in town!

Had the wings and mac n cheese balls. Both were delicious! The wings were perfectly smoked and had a little crop to them. No sauce needed. The mac n cheese balls were absolutely delicious. Great beer selection too, lots on tap. Great sports bar.

We stopped in after a morning of snorkeling so we ordered (mostly me) with our eyes, based on some of the other reviews. The place was empty, it was around 2pm. We sat at the bar and were attended to right away. I should have specified but I would've rather had the appetizers come out first but since I didn't, it came out all at once.. I figured since we ordered so much that she'd do that for us.. Anyway, no big deal.. We had the fried pickles. A for AMAZING. The pulled pork mac and cheese balls. SO CHEESY. SO GOOD. It was a foodie dream. I ordered buffalo chicken tenders with bleu cheese (which was house made and SO delicious). About halfway into my meal I began to wonder if the chicken was made out of one of the many roaming about Key West, it was SO fresh. And she got the mac daddy bowl. Holy shit, it's incredible. I'm no BBQ connoisseur but this was CRAZY good. Long story short, we packed everything and took it all the way back to Fort Lauderdale for work the next day. I think my BBQ fix is set for the next year. This place has serious potential. My only regret is that I didn't take a mugshot in the back. Would have been a cute memento.

Amazing prices - especially for the Duval St. area - and the food was super good. Winners for our group were the mac n cheese balls and the brisket chili on the chili dog bowl and Gunnar fries. Excellent beer choices and cool variety of hot sauces (from girly man to scorpion). Highly recommend for casual atmosphere, family-friendly food, and a cold beer. Service is a little slow but worth it!

We came here as a last resort for dinner at 10:30 on a Friday night. Our server was great, but the bar was a bit backed up with getting drinks out to the tables inside. Understandable for a Friday night, but seeing that we ordered one canned beer, it should not have been delivered AFTER we got our food. The food was pretty good, although I hated that you could not order burgers to your liking. The BBQ sauces were fun to try.

Great BBQ - got a little bit of a chain vibe going on, not even sure if it is a chain or not. Ribs were great, large craft beer selection. I overate - and felt full for 24 hours :)

I have this place deliver about twice a month. I love the consistency of good food they provide. I get the pulled pork platter and fried pickles. It is enough food for two meals. Love them!

We thought we would give this place a shot for dinner despite it having mediocre reviews. I ordered a jalapeño margarita, because I love jalapeños and margaritas; however, it was a bad mix! We had fried pickles for an appetizer, which were the best pickles I have ever had. We then ordered the BBQ dinner for 2. The pulled pork, Mac n cheese, baked beans, and cornbread were all very good. We were extremely disappointed with the ribs, which were ruined with a heavily salted rub. The wings were also not good, and tasted like they just came out of a freezer bag. I expected more for a $40 dinner plate.

I stopped in here on Monday afternoon for lunch. I ordered the Mac Daddy Bowl to split with my girlfriend. The food was good and it was way more than we could finish. The bowl came with pulled pork, beef brisket, baked beans, mac & cheese, chili, sour cream, french fries, and onion rings (for only $18!). It offered a pretty sizable sampling of their menu and everything was good.

So Close! I would definitely have given this place 5 stars except for 2 flaws; The Garlic Green Beans (Fabulous) had little stems on a good protion of them, making it awkward to eat and pull the stems, and the first two beers I tried to order (Sat, early afternoon) were out. ;-( Half rack of ribs- huge and tasty. Accompanying O-rings crisp, tasty and good size. Mac-n-cheese well cooked(not mushy) and flavorful. Catch of the day (Mahi, blackened) with Garlic green bean, O-rings, cornbread and slaw-all great tasting. Fish was fresh & moist, beans cooked soft but with body and lots of flavor w/o being overly seasoned. The cornbread IS sweet, like cake rather than the more coarse variety. Altogether, great meal, plenty of food, the dude did not even finish the half-rack of ribs, there was so much meat on them!

Can only vouch for the beer and smoked wings but I really love this place. The wings were the perfect balance of smoked but still crispy. We ordered them naked and added their bbq sauce... Highly recommend the pink unicorn sauce (3 out of 10 on hotness scale) and hot and sexy sauce (1 out of 10), the other sauces were too hot to actually enjoy the taste of the food. Great craft beer selection too. Perfect mid afternoon stop in Key West!

1 star review that way I could submit this. I can't right a review for this place because we didn't get any service after 15+ minutes.

I had the Big Daddy Bowl, now I know that when ordering BBQ that comes in a bowl you should not expect culinary greatness and I didn't. But the brisket was dry and the fries where soggy (due to them being placed in the bottom of the bowl and drenched with chili). Now the Mac 'n Cheese was delightful and the pulled pork wasn't bad. However one of us ordered the backyard burger and that was a letdown, due to a lack of flavor. I do expect that if you pick the right burger or the right BBQ-platter it will be better than what we ordered. Another lesson in ordering food, don't go for the mashups! Would I revisit, No

Terrific food and service. BBQ sampler the way to go. Great find in Key West. A large selection of sauces. If you like it hot they have a great variety. The pink peppercorn and little girly man sauces are delish

Fried pickles. All I can tell you is the fried pickles are amazing. We ordered them while hanging out at the Green Parrot next door. The girl offered to bring them over to the bar. Very tasty and a little spicy. They're served with a Chipotle ranch sauce which is one of a kind. We've also tried the regular food at the restaurant but it's average at best. It's okay though because I'm hooked on the pickles. Mmmm.

We had 5 star food with 2 star service. I rounded up to 4 stars...the food was worth it. There were four of us. My wife got the fish tacos, which she said were good. My boys got the half rack of baby back ribs and the fried shrimp basket. The shrimp was devoured which means they were good (I didn't get a chance to try first hand). The baby back ribs were great! I did split-sies with my son. I had the brisket and it was great! Best things were the brisket, baby back ribs, mac 'n cheese and cornbread...and the french fries were fantastic! Quite possibly the best fries we've ever had. The worst thing was the cole slaw. It was very spicy/peppery. I like the cole slaw to offset the spiciness of the barbecue sauce on the ribs/brisket. I almost wonder if we just got a bad batch. And now the service. When we were seated, we were the only one's in the dining room (for those not familiar, there is also a bar area). It was 6 pm on Tues and the place was dead. When the waiter took our dinner order, I told him we were looking at the drink menu and were going to order, but needed a moment. A minimum 15-20 minutes went by and we never saw our waiter. I finally told the person seating people that we wanted to order drinks and he sent our waiter over. We then saw our waiter once while we were eating, and then had to ask someone to get our waiter so we could get our bill. The kicker is that when we were leaving, we saw our waiter talking to another couple that were leaving. They had either sat outside or in the bar. The couple was telling the waiter what a great time they had there and were thanking him for the great service. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it seems that some of the servers are more interested in visiting than serving.

This is apparently the only BBQ on Key West and it's one of Pat Croce's places. Went there with friends from Key West and was pleasantly surprised that it's a Q joint which also doubles as a sports bar in the sense that the big screens all had games on. The menu included all of the classic BBQ items and sides.....the food was well done, our waitress was excellent (can't recall her name but she was blond and very good), prices were fair and our server brought over the house made hot sauces....the corn bread and Mac n cheese were just so-so but the entrees were tasty!

Just off Duval, unassuming place with great wings. We went looking for barbecue in Key West and came here. Husband got the smoked chicken wings which he said were just about the best he ever had. I got the smoked turkey dinner, and while I wouldn't say it was the best ever, I did very much enjoy it. They have a variety of bbq sauces to try and if you're feeling weird, a mug shot back drop to get a pic in front of.
